Sherry Hall

My work is molded by the twists and turns of events and people in my life. Depending on my mood, my pieces may be playful, express movement, or highlight contrast. I sometimes join pieces together to add interest to the form. I enjoy both throwing and handbuilding, and some of my work integrates both techniques. The gesture of feeling I want to give my form is also reflected in the glaze I choose or the method of firing. Raku is a primal and sensuous form of firing that allows me to be closer to my work, while gas and electric firing give totally different effects with more precision and greater artistic control. I work with clay to center myself and escape the tension and worries of everyday life. By giving a physical form to a range of emotions, I hope to achieve a shared sense of humanity with an audience.
